Like many other car makers they have been teasing and slowly releasing details over the past year but now they&#8217;re showing off the production version at the Frankfurt Auto Show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Price<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/www.alexshoolman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Honda-e-Badge-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3450\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.alexshoolman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Honda-e-Badge-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.alexshoolman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Honda-e-Badge-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.alexshoolman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Honda-e-Badge-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.alexshoolman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Honda-e-Badge.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption>Honda e and Frankfurt International Motor Show 2019<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Prices for Honda e will start from \u20ac29,470 in Germany (including local government subsidy) for the 100kW version, rising to \u20ac32,470 for the \u201cAdvance\u201d grade that includes further specification and a motor output increased to 113kW<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>As that price is including the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.electrive.com\/2019\/02\/13\/german-govt-considers-expanding-subsidies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">German EV subsidy<\/a>, it should be equal to around \u20ac33,470 without it. If we then take off the 19% VAT you get in Germany it comes back down to around \u20ac28,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you <em><strong>then <\/strong><\/em>do a straight EUR to AUD conversion on that and add GST this comes out to around $50,000 AUD. You&#8217;d then also have to add on import duties and other taxes and on road costs too. After all that I can see it quite likely hitting the $55,000+ AUD mark. They&#8217;ve also mentioned before that it&#8217;ll have a 35 kWh battery and a 200 km range. There&#8217;s also a sunroof and even camera side mirrors which is something quite new.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There&#8217;s also smartphone connectivity to the car for remote functionality along with what looks to be a &#8220;HDMI Input&#8221; options on the screens. The inside looks pretty nice too but the price and range specs are all hugely out of whack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Given how long everyone will have to wait for this to be released (even in Europe) I can only see the price to performance ratio getting worse and worse as time goes on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As such I can&#8217;t see Honda really selling too many of these simply because it&#8217;s just not a good deal, especially in Europe where there will be many, many other great EV&#8217;s out by 2020\/2021 with far better specs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hopefully Honda can iterate on the car quick and drop the price whilst upgrading the range and car software.
