{"id":2851,"date":"2019-01-24T01:10:02","date_gmt":"2019-01-23T14:10:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.alexshoolman.com\/blog\/?p=2851"},"modified":"2024-08-08T10:27:32","modified_gmt":"2024-08-08T00:27:32","slug":"australia-installing-70000-home-batteries-in-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.alexshoolman.com\/blog\/2019\/01\/24\/australia-installing-70000-home-batteries-in-2019\/","title":{"rendered":"Australia Installing 70,000 Home Batteries In 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Home Battery Storage in Australia is already shaping up to be big business but according to Bloomberg 2018 was nothing!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Their <a href=\"https:\/\/about.bnef.com\/blog\/australia-largest-residential-storage-market-2019\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">latest report<\/a> expects that, driven by $147 million dollars in state government subsidies we&#8217;ll install <strong><em>an additional <\/em><\/strong>70,000 battery systems during 2019. While that number is a far cry from the 2 million+ solar systems already installed on Aussie roofs it&#8217;s still impressive by world standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Collectively it&#8217;ll mean Australia will make up <strong><em>around 30%<\/em><\/strong> of the entire global battery demand. Not bad for a population of 24 million!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This tripling of installations is mainly led by South Australia&#8217;s huge <a href=\"https:\/\/virtualpowerplant.sa.gov.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Virtual Power Plant project<\/a>. That new virtual power plant of potentially 250 megawatts, is designed to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Lower energy prices<\/li><li>Increase grid stability<\/li><li>Provide protection during a grid outage<\/li><li>Increase customers\u2019 visibility of their energy use<\/li><li>Support South Australia\u2019s transition to a renewables-based economy.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>The full program could be rolled out to 24,000 more public housing properties and 25,000 private properties from mid-2019.<\/p><cite>https:\/\/virtualpowerplant.sa.gov.au<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Rest Of Australia<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"501\" src=\"https:\/\/www.alexshoolman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Tesla-Battery-Diagram-1024x501.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2853\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.alexshoolman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Tesla-Battery-Diagram-1024x501.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.alexshoolman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Tesla-Battery-Diagram-300x147.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.alexshoolman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Tesla-Battery-Diagram-768x376.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.alexshoolman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Tesla-Battery-Diagram.jpg 1077w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The remaining estimated 20,000 storage systems will likely be installed throughout Australia, although there could also be a heavy focus on Victoria given they too <a href=\"https:\/\/www.premier.vic.gov.au\/cheaper-electricity-with-solar-batteries-for-10000-homes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">have a 50% battery subside for up to 10,000 homes<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Labor Government will provide half price solar batteries for 10,000 Victorian households that already have solar panels to help them save even more on their electricity bills.<\/p><p>Under the scheme, homeowners can get a 50 per cent rebate for installation of a battery storage unit, capped at $4,838 in the first year.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">From State To Federal<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"469\" src=\"https:\/\/www.alexshoolman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Tesla-Powerwall-Home-2-1024x469.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1739\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.alexshoolman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Tesla-Powerwall-Home-2-1024x469.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.alexshoolman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Tesla-Powerwall-Home-2-300x138.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.alexshoolman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Tesla-Powerwall-Home-2-768x352.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>If the Federal Labor Government also wins the upcoming election it could even further push the numbers up in 2020.
